Royals Drop Road Opener at Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – EMU hit the road on Saturday, taking on Hood College in their first road matchup of the season.

The Blazers used seven goals in each of the first two quarters, en route to a 19-6 win.

Records: EMU 0-2, 0-0 ODAC | Hood College 1-2, 0-0 MAC

Highlights

First Quarter
  • Both goalkeepers picked up saves early in the game, with Courtney Crawford firing a shot that was saved, and Cristal Narciso keeping Hood off the board.
  • Narciso came up with two more saves, but the Blazers were able to capitalize on a man-up goal, to take a 1-0 lead. They added three more goals over the next four minutes, taking a 4-0 lead with just over six minutes left.
  • EMU got on the board in the fifth minute when Ava Walker took a pass from Ainsley Clark and beat the keeper. Less than 30 seconds later, Crawford was able to cut into the Hood lead yet again, with a free position goal. Unfortunately for the Royals, Hood was able to add three more goals to take a 7-2 lead after one.
Second Quarter
  • The Blazers tacked on three more goals over the first five minutes of the third, before EMU responded with their third goal of the day, a score from Shayleigh Sims, for her first of the season.
  • Bailey Freeman was able to put a shot on net toward the send of the quarter, but it was turned away by the Blazers keeper. Hood added four more goals in the frame, taking a 14-3 lead through two.
Third Quarter
  • Narciso added three early saves in the third, before Hood picked up two goals, taking a 16-3. In the final minutes of the quarter, Angel Hines was able to put her shot past the Hood keeper, to start cutting into the Blazer lead.
Fourth Quarter
  • After a Narciso save on a Blazer shot, Hood was able to get one through, extending their lead to 17-4. A minute later, Walker added her second goal of the game and fourth of the season.
  • After Hood added their final two goals of the quarter, EMU added their final goal. Crawford took a pass from Alex Palizzi and beat the Hood keeper for her second goal of the game.

EMU will be back at home on Monday as they welcome in Alma College to Harrisonburg. First draw is set for 5 pm.
