HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU LAX welcomed in Alma College for a rare Monday night game.
After a tight first half, that saw the game tied after 30 minutes, Alma outscored the Royals 8-4 in the second half, en route to a 14-10 win.
Records: EMU 0-3, 0-0 ODAC | Alma 2-0, 0-0 MIAA
Highlights
First Quarter
- Both goalkeepers came out strong, with Alma's keeper making an early save on a shot by Ava Walker, and Cristal Narciso picking up three saves in the 1:05. But, after an EMU turnover, the Scots were able to put their first goal on the board at the 13:29 mark, taking a 1-0 lead. That lead didn't last long, however, as Ainsley Clark netted her first goal of the season, tying things at one.
- Narciso added four more saves over the next seven minutes, until, with just over six and a half minutes left in the quarter, Alma reclaimed the lead. Once again, that lead was short lived as Walker won the draw and took the ball into the Scots zone, beating the goalkeeper and knotting things at two.
- After another Alma goal with 4:25 left in the first, EMU scored two straight: one coming out of the stick of Angel Hines, who took a pass from Courtney Crawford, and fired one past the keeper. The next was from Alex Palizzi, and it gave EMU a 4-3 lead after one.
Second Quarter
- The Hines/Crawford connection netted their second score of the game just 18 seconds into the second quarter. The Scots, however, scored three unanswered goals to pull ahead 6-5. Narciso was able to add to her save total with a save in the second.
- With just over four minutes left in the half, and EMU trailing by one, Crawford, who had already dished out two assists, took a pass from Amber Bonds and put it on cage, beating the keeper. Neither team was able to score again the half, as the game was tied at six.
Third Quarter
- Just like the second quarter, EMU scored early in the third, as Walker gave EMU the lead just 51 seconds into the frame. Narciso came up with a big save on a free position shot with just over 12 minutes left, but Alma tied things at seven with 11:42 left.
- At the 7:41 mark, Walker picked up her first career hat-trick, putting the Royals ahead 8-7. That would be EMU's final lead of the game, as Alma scored three unanswered, the final two coming in the last 1:05 of the quarter, to take a 10-8 lead through three.
Fourth Quarter
- The Scots scored back-to-back goals in the quarter's first 41 seconds, to extend their lead to 12-9. EMU used a Bonds free position goal to pull back within two, but Alma was able to tack on two more goals, and hold the Royals without a goal for over 11 minutes. EMU's final goal of the game came from Walker, her fourth of the game, with 1:17 left in the game. The Scots picked up the win, running out the final minute and change.
