Highlights
First Half
The Royals jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, with
Zach Bailey and
Isaiah Carr each chipping in three points, to force a HSC timeout. After a Tigers bucket,
Aviwe Mahlong hit a layup, to keep EMU in front by eight. Hampden-Sydney responded with a 16-0 run over the next 6:20, taking an 18-10 lead before
Teko Bostick Jr. hit a floater to stop the Tigers run. Unfortunately for EMU, they would only be able to score five more points in the half, with
Kaleb Torrence adding three, as HSC took a 34-17 lead into halftime.
Second Half
EMU started the second half on a 5-0 run, with all five points coming from Carr, to pull back within 12. HSC would respond, just like they did in the first half, with a 14-0 run, to extend their lead to 26, 48-22. A pair of Torrence free throws, a Bostick Jr. three and a Mahlong three gave the Royals an 8-2 advantage, but over the next three minutes, Hampden-Sydney would push their lead to 26 with a 10-4 run. An
Aaron Brooks step back jumper and a Mahlong layup sandwiched a Tiger basket, but the Royals would add just six points over the final 5:15 of the game, with
Zach Perry hitting a three in the game's final seconds to wrap up the EMU scoring.
