Runnin Royals Take Latest Installment of the Poultry Road Rivalry

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Wins are good. ODAC wins are better. But ODAC wins over your rival? Nothing's sweeter.

With the game tied at 26 at the half, EMU opened the second half on a 7-0 run, and never trailed again, as they took down Bridgewater College 70-62.

Records: EMU 5-15, 2-10 ODAC | Bridgewater 8-13, 3-9 ODAC

Highlights

First Half
EMU jumped out to a 7-4 lead to start the game, with Aaron Brooks scoring three and Isaiah Carr and Zach Bailey adding two each. Bridgewater tied things at seven, and the teams swapped leads, with BC taking their largest, 19-16, at the 7:14 mark. EMU answered with an 8-0 run, as Kaleb Torrence had five and Carr added two, and the Royals took a 24-19 lead. EMU continued to hold a 3-5 point lead until, with no time on the clock, a Bridgewater shooter was fouled while shooting a three. He hit all three free throws and the teams went to the locker room tied at 26.

Second Half
EMU sprinted out to a seven point lead to start the second half, with Torrence, Bailey and Carr accounting for all seven. The Royals would continue to lead over the next four minutes, but Bridgewater wasn't going away quietly, as they tied the game at 39. But back-to-back layups from Jalen Jones sandwiched a BC bucket, re-extending the EMU lead. The Eagles would tie the game again, this time at 44, 46 and 48, the latter coming with 5:57 to play. But that's when EMU started pulling away: Payton Lewis' layup and Brooks' three pushed EMU's lead to five, and this time they wouldn't relinquish it. Bridgewater was able to get as close as two, but the Royals hit 10 of their 11 free throws over the final two minutes of the game, to secure the win.
