ASHLAND, Va. – The Royals field hockey team started ODAC play on Saturday, heading to Richmond to take on Randolph Macon.
After EMU held RMC scoreless in the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets netted goals in the next three quarters, en route to a 6-0 win.

Highlights
- Emma Huante and the Royals defense came up big in the first quarter, holding the Yellow Jackets scoreless. Huante came up with four saves, including a save on a penalty stroke, to keep the game tied at zero after one.
- In the second quarter, the Royals had a chance to put one on the board, as Joni Wiederman put a shot on cage, but it was saved by the RMC keeper. Huante added three more saves in the second 15 minutes, but Macon was able to tack on a pair of goals, taking a 2-0 lead into the half.
- Five minutes into the second quarter, EMU's offense put some pressure on the Macon defense. Camryn Lohr had a shot on goal, and EMU forced a penalty corner, which resulted in a shot by Shay Gough, but neither were able to find the back of the cage. In the 37th minute, RMC added to their lead, to lead 3-0. Jocelyn Allanson added to EMU's shot total, putting one on goal in the final minute of the third, but once again it was saved as Randolph Macon took a 3-0 lead to the fourth.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to add three more to their lead in the fourth, with Huante adding three saves to her total. Wiederman picked up another shot on goal late in the game, but it was saved by the keeper to preserve the shut out.
