Royals Down Hollins for Senior Day Win

HARRISONBURG, Va. - On a day where EMU celebrated its four seniors, it had quite a bit more to celebrate as well.

The Royals used a balanced offensive attack, using two goals in each of the first and second halves, to pick up a 4-1 win over Hollins. The Royals win, coupled with a loss from Randolph to Randolph Macon, clinches an ODAC playoff bid for the Royals for the first time since the 2019 season.

Records: EMU 6-9-1, 4-5-0 | Hollins 3-11-1, 1-8-0

Highlights
  • The Royals offense came out firing to start the game, with Bridget Hay, Hannah Kepler, Leah Beachy and Hailey Walker all getting shots off in the first seven minutes. But none of them were able to get EMU on the board as the score remained at zero. Hollins got on the board first, after a shot from Evelin Lemus-Arriaga was saved in the goal by Leah Cap, but the rebound went to Izzy Workman, who put it past Katie Parks, to give HU the lead.
  • Hollins continued to lead despite the Royals offensive pressure. EMU got on the board in the 18th minute when Esme Cardoso sent a pass to Hannah Kepler, who got past a defender and sent a shot to the bottom right corner for the goal and a 1-1 tie.
  • EMU took the lead for good in the 31st minute when Beachy stole the ball from Valtinique Simmons, made a move to her left and fired a shot from her left foot to the lower left corner, beating the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
  • In the 53rd minute, after a Hollins foul, Leah Cap lined up for the free kick, sent it over the HU defenders, right to Kepler, who headed it past the keeper to extend the Royals lead. The final goal came in the 66th minute when Hay sent a pass across the field to a streaking Beachy, who took it just inside the 25, dribbled past a defender and, when she was just inside the box, fired a shot to the right side past the keeper.
