Highlights
- The Royals came out shooting to open the game, with Hailey Walker, Bridget Hay and Leah Beachy all putting shots on goal. The Cougars keeper, Tiia Chrons, came up with multiple saves to keep the Royals off the board through the first 28 minutes. But after Beachy's shot was saved, Hay was right there to collect the rebound, dribble around the Cougars defender and put one inside the top right corner for a 1-0 EMU lead.
- EMU's defense only allowed Averett one shot on goal in the first half, which was saved by Katie Parks, giving the Royals a 1-0 lead at the break.
- CJ Jefferson replaced Parks at the half, and saved the first shot that came her way. But two minutes after her first save, Averett got on the board with a goal, tying things at one.
- In the 78th minute, Bryn Yoder sent a ball toward the Cougars goal. It bounced off an Averett defender, right to Beachy, who dribbled into the box and sent a shot to the lower right corner for the goal and a 2-1 EMU lead.
- Hay scored her second of the day in the 83rd minute, when Esme Cardoso sent a fantastic pass ahead of the Cougars defense to a streaking Hay, whose left footed shot got past the keeper's right for a 3-1 lead. The Royals final goal came in the 87th minute when Hannah Kepler took the ball inside the box, sent a crosser to the front of the net to a waiting Ella Nguyen, who beat the keeper for her first collegiate goal. After their first goal at the start of the half, the Royals defense held AU to just one more shot on goal, which was saved by Jefferson, to ensure the win.
