HARRISONBURG, Va. - On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, EMU welcomed its alumni back for Homecoming. Joining them were the Vixens of Sweet Briar College for an ODAC women's soccer matchup.
The Royals picked up a pair of first half goals, while holding the Vixens to just one shot for the game, as EMU picked up a 2-0 win.
Records: EMU 4-7-1, 2-3 ODAC | Sweet Briar 4-7-0, 0-6-0
Highlights
- The Royals came out firing, getting three shots on the Vixens in the first seven and a half minutes. Their first shot on goal came from Hailey Walker, but a save from SBC kept EMU off the board.
- EMU wasn't kept off the board for long, however, as they scored in the eighth minute. A corner kick from Hannah Kepler was headed out by a Vixens defender. The deflection found Leah Beachy who put her shot past the keeper for a 1-0 lead. This was the third straight game with a goal for Beachy, as she tied her career-high with her sixth of the season.
- EMU continued to keep the ball in their offensive zone, keeping the Vixens keeper busy. But she continued to rack up saves, holding the Royals to just one goal until the 29th minute. Kepler's pass found Walker, and this time Walker wasn't going to be stopped, as her shot sailed past the SBC keeper, putting EMU ahead 2-0.
- A single shot on goal is all EMU's defense allowed, as it came late in the game in the 84th minute. But it was stopped by CJ Jefferson to keep the shut out intact. Unfortunately for the Royals, they were also kept off the board in the second half, despite multiple shots on goal, as they rode their two first half goals to the win.
