EMU Drops Match to Bridgewater

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The EMU Women's Volleyball team was looking for its second ODAC win on Wednesday, as they took on cross-town, and ODAC, rival, Bridgewater. 

It was a slugfest with the Eagles, but ultimately it was BC that escaped Yoder Arena with the 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-19) win.

Highlights

Set One - Bridgewater 25, EMU 20
  • The teams traded points to seven-all, before three straight points from Bridgewater gave them a three-point lead. EMU tied things at 10 with an error, a Kaitlyn Custis ace and a kill from Hannah Quero
  • Later in the set, EMU pulled ahead by one after kills from Madison Stocker and Quero, but Bridgewater answered with a 6-1 tilt to take a 21-17 lead. 
  • EMU was able to pick up kills from Kassidy Meadows and Quero, but Bridgewater finished out the set, winning three of the final four points. 
Set Two - Bridgewater 25, EMU 11
  • BC jumped out to a 4-2 lead to start the second, before Mara Woolford's kill cut the deficit to one. The Eagles answered with an 11-2 run, pushing their lead to double digits, 15-5. 
  • Two Eagle errors and a block from Stockner cut Bridgewater's lead to eight, but the Eagles had a 6-0 run to take a 22-8 lead. 
  • The Royals were able to get a kill from Sophia Denby, but Bridgewater picked up a kill to end the set, and take a 2-0 lead.
Set Three - Bridgewater 25, EMU 19
  • EMU used a 3-0 run, picking up a kill from Stockner and an ace from Anna Black, to pull ahead 6-5 early in set three. BC retook the lead, 10-7, but EMU answered back with three straight from Stockner and Denby, to tie things at 10. 
  • The teams traded points to BC holding a 16-14 lead, but Bridgewater was able to give themselves some breathing room with a 4-1 run, to take a 20-15 lead. 
  • EMU was able to pull within three at 20-17, 21-18 and 22-19, after two errors and a Denby kill, but Bridgewater wrapped up the win with three straight points.

What's Next
EMU will continue their homestand on Saturday, when they welcome in Randolph College and St. Mary's (Md.) to Yoder Arena for a tri-match. First serve against the WildCats is set for noon.
