HARRISONBURG, Va. - It was a tale of two matches for the Royals on Saturday.
EMU dropped the day's opener to Randolph, 3-2 (24-26, 25-15, 25-10, 21-25, 15-11) before rebounding in the finale to sweep St. Mary's College of Maryland, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-20)

Records: EMU 5-8, 1-3 ODAC | Randolph 9-6, 2-2 ODAC
Set One - EMU 26, Randolph 24
- Kills from Sophia Denby and Mara Woolford gave EMU a slim 4-3 lead to start the match. The teams traded points, and EMU was able to keep their lead, even extending it to as many as four, 14-10 and 16-12.
- With EMU leading 19-15, Randolph went on a 5-0 run to take a 20-19 lead. A kill from Denby and a block from Denby and Kenley Smith pushed the Royals ahead 21-20. -
- With EMU serving for set point, at 24-23, a kill from Randolph sent the set to extra points. But back-to-back kills from Woolford kept the extra points short, as EMU took a 1-0 lead.
Set Two - Randolph 25, EMU 15
- Two errors and a block from Denby and Smith, gave EMU another small lead to start the second set. But Randolph responded with a 6-1 run to take an 8-4 advantage.
- With Randolph leading 13-7, EMU would pull within four with a service error and a Kaitlyn Custis block, but Randolph pulled back ahead with another run, this time 7-0, to extend their lead to 11.
- EMU was able to cut the lead to nine, with two WildCat errors, a Custis ace, and a Denby kill, but Randolph finished things out with an EMU service error for the set win.
Set Three - Randolph 25, EMU 10
- Denby and Kassidy Meadows kills, as well as a Denby/Smith block, put EMU ahead 3-1. But that lead was short lived as Randolph went on a 16-3 run, to take a big 17-6 lead.
- The Royals would pick up a pair of kills from Denby and one from Smith, but RC took a 2-1 lead, winning the final four points of the set.
Set Four - EMU 25, Randolph 21
- The teams traded points to seven-all, to start the third. Randolph proceeded to go on a 4-0 run to take an 11-7 lead. But EMU responded with three straight, using a kill from Woolford and two Lindsay Bly aces, to pull within one.
- After Randolph took a 14-10 advantage, EMU fought back to tie things at 15. But like they'd done all match, Randolph responded and took a 19-16 lead.
- The Royals weren't going down without a battle, and used a 4-0 run, highlighted by kills from Meadows and Denby, along with a Meadows ace, to take a 20-16 lead. The WildCats tied things at 20, but the Royals forced a fifth set with five of the last six points, including a pair of kills from Woolford.
Set Five - Randolph 15, EMU 11
- Meadows and Woolford tied things at two, but Randolph used a 4-0 tilt to take a 6-2 lead in the third.
- EMU would pull within one multiple times, 6-5 and 8-7, and would eventually tie things at 10 after a kill from Denby and a block from Bly and Custis, but Randolph would wrap up the win with five of the last six points, including the final four.

Set One - EMU 25, SMCM 23
- St. Mary's took a slim 7-6 lead to start the match, but EMU went on a 4-0 run, using a kill from Woolford, two from Denby and a Woolford ace, to take a 10-7 lead.
- The teams traded points to a 16-16 tie, before the Seahawks went on a 5-1 run to pull ahead 21-17.
- With the Royals trailing by four, they then scored six straight, using a trio of Woolford aces and a block from Bly and Custis, to take a 23-21 advantage. The Seahawks were able to tack on two more points, but an attack error from SMCM gave EMU a 1-0 lead.
Set Two - EMU 25, SMCM 13
- A kill from Bly and Denby, along with a Meadows/Smith block, put EMU ahead 5-1 to start the second frame.
- EMU would continue to lead, their advantage never really in trouble, as SMCM would only get as close as three, at 12-9. But nothing was stopping the Royals from taking a 2-0 lead, as they ended the set on 13-4 run, including three points from Denby and three from Smith, to take an emphatic win in set two.
Set Three - EMU 25, SMCM 20
- St. Mary's wasn't ready to make the trip home, as they took an 8-3 lead to start the third set. EMU would chip away, but SMCM was able to keep their lead by as many as five, 15-10.
- EMU scored three of the next four, with a kill from Meadows, cutting the Seahawks lead to three. But SMCM pushed the lead back to four with a kill. EMU was hungry for the sweep, though, as two Denby kills, a Woolford ace and a block Bly and Denby gave EMU their first lead of the set, 18-17.
- SMCM was able to retake the lead, 20-18, with a 3-0 run, but EMU finished out the set, and the match, with a 7-0 run including a big solo block from Smith to wrap up the win.

What's Next
EMU will hit the road for an ODAC matchup at Guilford on Friday. First serve against the Quaker is set for 6 pm.
