Women's Soccer Drops Battle to Bishops

HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU Women's Soccer returned home on Wednesday, looking for their second straight win.

They welcomed in NC Wesleyan, who was able to pick up the 3-1 win over the Royals, in the first of four straight home games for EMU.

Records: EMU 1-4, 0-0 ODAC | NC Wesleyan 2-4, 0-0 USA South

Highlights
  • EMU came out firing, peppering the Battling Bishops keeper with shots from Esme Cardoso-Rodriguez and Izzy Fraher, early on. But the keeper was on her game, stopping them both and keeping EMU off the board.
  • 25' - NC Wesleyan got on the board first, when Samantha found Eden Whiteside on the crosser, and Whiteside was able to put it past Aja Laun for the goal. Two and a half minutes later, the same tandem scored on the same play, giving NCW a 2-0 lead. EMU continued to pound shots at the Bishops keeper, but she saved them all, racking up six more in the final 23 minutes of the half, as NC Wesleyan went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
  • 53' - Dell added to her day with a goal, putting NCW ahead 3-0 early in the second half.
  • 70' - EMU finally found paydirt last in the game, as Cardoso-Rodriguez put a nice juke on the Bishops defender, and put one past the keeper, who wasn't able to save this one, for the first year's second goal of the season. Both teams pushed to score again, but neither was able to get another shot on goal, as North Carolina Wesleyan picked up the win.
