Late Goal Pushes Methodist Past Royals

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals Women's Soccer Team returned home on Sunday, opening their 2024 home campaign against visiting Methodist.

EMU's defense was strong throughout, holding the Monarchs to just six shots on goal. Unfortunately, one of those shots found the back of the net as MU escaped with a 1-0 win.

Records: EMU 0-2, 0-0 ODAC | Methodist 1-0, 0-0 USA South

Highlights
  • Methodist got their first shot on goal at the 12:30 mark of the first half, but it was kept away by Aja Laun.
  • Laun came up big, making two more stops in the half. But EMU's offense was only able to get one shot themselves, an off-target shot from Leah Beachy, as the game remained scoreless at the half.
  • EMU's first shot on goal came in the 63rd minute as Esme Cardoso-Rodriguez was able to get behind the defense and put one on net, but it was saved by the Monarchs keeper to keep the Royals off the board.
  • 85' - With just five minutes left in the game, after an EMU foul, a free kick from MU's Allye Carter found Daphne Paleocrassas in front of the net, who scored to break the tie. EMU couldn't get the equalizer, as Methodist picked up the narrow win.
