CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The EMU women's triathlon team began its 2024 season at the Cal Tri Charlottesville meet, held at the Fry's Spring Beach Club in Charlottesville, Va. On a warm and humid Sunday morning, the athletes competed in a sprint triathlon, consisting of a 400-meter swim, a 12.7-mile bike ride, and a five-kilometer (3.1 miles) run.

The Royals dominated the college sprint portion of the triathlon event, led by Jenna Weaver winning the college division competition, breaking the tape with a cumulative time of 1:15:25. Teammate Zoe Clymer took home runner-up honors, crossing the line in 1:20:48.

Highlights

• Weaver pulled away with the fastest swim (7:17) and bike (43:49) segments out of all college competitors.
• Clymer's cumulative time was a near five-minute improvement from her time in Charlottesville last season.
• Ella Richer made her EMU Triathlon debut with a fourth-place finish and a triathlon time of 1:22:20.
• Daisy Buller and Sarah Wheeler completed the triathlon in fifth and sixth places with finish times of 1:36:49 and 1:37:12. Buller's time is a roughly eight-minute improvement from the same event in 2023.

What's Next
The EMU women's triathlon team will have three weeks before they return to action at the Giant Acorn Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Va. The race is slated to start at 8 a.m.
