Last Second PK Spoils Royals Defensive Gem

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Royals women's soccer team kicked off their season on Friday (pun intended) and for the first 89:38, it looked like they would leave with a scoreless draw.

But with just 20 seconds remaining, after an EMU foul in the box gave the Phoenix a PK, the ball found the back of the net for the first time and gave Wilson a 1-0 win, spoiling a big night in net from Aja Laun

Records: EMU 0-1, 0-0 ODAC | Wilson College 1-0, 0-0 United East

Highlights
  • Laun picked up a pair of saves in the first 11 minutes, to keep the game scoreless. Mary Kate Bomberger had the Royals' first chance, as she put a shot on net at just under 12', but the keeper came up with the save to keep the game tied at 0.
  • Amiah Carter was able to pick up another Royals shot on goal, but it was saved. But Laun and the EMU defense continued to play well, holding the Phoenix scoreless at the break.
  • Leah Beachy added a pair of shots on net in the second half, while Laun continued to stand on her head, racking up four more saves to push her total to nine. But Wilson struck in the waning second of the game on the PK, to pick up the win.
