Softball Drops Second Game to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The game started six days ago and finally wrapped up on Tuesday.

After getting rained out in the fifth inning last Wednesday, EMU and BC picked back up on Tuesday, finishing the second game of their ODAC doubleheader. A two-run sixth inning provided the Eagles with some insurance runs as they held on for a 4-1 win over EMU.

WP: D. Lail (3-2)
LP: Natalye Graham (2-3)

Highlights
  • Bridgewater was able to put runners on first and second in the first inning, but Graham got a popout to short to end the inning. The Royals went down in order in the second, and BC was able to take a 1-0 lead after the leadoff batter reached second on an error and came in to score on an RBI single.
  • In the fifth, with EMU trailing 1-0, two outs and Graham on second, the rain and hail came, forcing the umpires to suspend the game. When play resumed, with the tying run on second, a groundout ended the threat and kept Bridgewater on top. The Eagles added to their lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to push their lead to two.
  • In the top of the sixth, EMU cut into the Eagles lead when Samantha Hensley and Grace Fravel singled, and Hensley came in to score on Braxten Jones' RBI to right. But that was as close as the Royals would get, as BC added two in the sixth and worked around a two-out Taylor Umberger base hit in the seventh.
