Highlights
First Quarter
Guilford got the first salvos of the game with layups from Amara Harrell and Courtney McMillian. EMU rallied to close the quarter on a 5-0 run with a Washington three-pointer and an Osborne layup to go up 19-12 after 10 minutes of action.
Second Quarter
The Quakers came out strong in the second stanza, going on 12-0 run to take a 24-19 advantage. Surles stopped their rally with pull-up jumper, and the Royals later scored seven unanswered points to tie the game at 28.
Mya Hamlet evened the game at 30 with a pair of free-throws, but then Anna Giannopoulou nailed a turn-around jumper to put Guilford out front 32-30 at the half.
Third Quarter
Following a Guilford layup to open the second half, EMU caught fire with an 8-0 run over a 1:07 span, which started with a Hamlet jumper and ended with a Surles three-pointer. The two squads went back-and-forth over the third quarter, with neither side getting out front by more than four points. Ultimately, the Royals and Quakers went to the fourth tied at 49 apiece.
Fourth Quarter
Osborne opened up the final quarter with a three-pointer to give EMU a 52-49 edge. Like the fourth quarter, neither team could get much separation, with the lead never being bigger than four points. After Guilford got up by four with a pair of McMillan free throws, Surles nailed another three-pointer with 1:17 remaining to draw the Royals within one at 69-68.
Brii Redfearn then scored three straight points on a free throw and a layup to put the home team up 71-69. Giannopoulou made a layup to even the game up at 71 with seventeen seconds left. The Royals failed to score on the ensuing possession, leaving Guilford just enough time to get the ball up court for Zeigler's game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
