HARRISONBURG, Va.- The EMU Women's Basketball team rode a six-game winning streak into their ODAC opener against Shenandoah University on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Royals, their streak was snapped at the hands of the Hornets, falling 75-53 in front of the home crowd at Yoder Arena.
Lauren Townsend and
Laila Glymph led EMU with 11 and 10 points, respectively. However, the Royals had no answer for Shenandoah's Terese Greene, who led all scorers with 23 points.

Highlights
First Quarter
Shenandoah got the jump on EMU with an 8-2 run over the first 2:50 of the contest, with all three points coming from Greene.
Jeriyah Osborne nailed a driving layup to cut the deficit to 8-4, only for the Hornets to swarm the Royals again with another 8-0 run spanning just 1:31 of another game action, growing their lead to 12 at 16-4. The Royals showed some fight to end the quarter, going a 6-2 rally of their own, capped off by a floating jumpshot from Osborne to make the score 18-10 after 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
Glymph rallied the Royals to start the second quarter, scoring EMU's first five points of the frame to cut Shenandoah's lead to five at 20-15. But once again, Shenandoah opened their lead back up with another 8-0 run 1:49 of game action. The second quarter was a little more even than the first quarter as the Hornets outscored the Royals 23-19 in the period to put the halftime score at 41-29 in favor of the visitors.
Third Quarter
The Hornets came out of the locker room buzzing, scoring eight unanswered points to begin the second half to grow their lead to 20. All told, the Hornets outscored the Royals 22-12 in the third period to put their lead at 22 at 63-41.
Fourth Quarter
With the game out of reach, both sides brought in younger players to gain some important game experience for later in the season.

The EMU Women's Basketball team will complete their current five-game homestand on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when they host ODAC foe Randolph Macon. Tip-off against the Yellow Jackets is set for 7 p.m.
