SALEM, Va. – The Royals Field Hockey team wrapped up their 2024 ODAC slate on Saturday, heading to Salem to take on Roanoke College.
The Maroons scored two goals in the first quarter and three in the second, en route to a 7-0 win over EMU.

Highlights
- EMU came up with a big chance to start the game, as Morgan Leslie took the ball into the Maroons circle, and was able to draw a penalty corner. But Roanoke's defense kept the Royals off the board. Gracyn Arruda came up with a pair of saves to keep the game knotted at zero, but Roanoke broke through with their first at the 11:52 mark. They added a second in the 14th minute to take a 2-0 lead after one.
- Three minutes into the second quarter, Roanoke added their third goal and a minute later added their fourth on a goal from Carsyn Poppa. Arruda added two more saves in the frame, while EMU had a penalty corner late the quarter, but couldn't get a shot on goal, as RC took a 5-0 lead into the half.
- In the third quarter, EMU's defense played strong, holding the Maroons scoreless for 11 minutes while Arruda added five saves. But Roanoke, playing for their ODAC Tournament life, was able to tack on two more goals and take a 7-0 lead into the fourth.
- The story of the fourth was once again the Royals defense, as they held the Roanoke offense scoreless. Arruda had three saves in the final 15 minutes, to give her 13 for the day, her ninth straight game with double-digit saves.

What's Next
EMU will wrap up the 2024 regular season on Tuesday, when they welcome in Southern Virginia to the turf field. Game time is set for 6 pm.
