LEXINGTON, Va. – The Royals Field Hockey team opened ODAC play on Saturday, with a big challenge in front of it: a road game at Washington and Lee.
The Generals used five first-quarter goals and four third-quarter goals to secure a 9-0 win over EMU.

Highlights
- The Generals got on the board just 29 seconds into the game when Sydney Baggett took a pass from Margaret Cover and found the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead. They would add four more goals in the frame, but Gracyn Arruda was able to grab six saves, to keep the game at 5-0 after one.
- The Royals defense kept W&L off the board in the second quarter, holding the Generals to just four shots on goal, all of which were saved by Arruda.
- In the second half, Washington and Lee was able to add four more goals in the third quarter, but once again, EMU's defense locked W&L down in the fourth. Arruda racked up five saves in the third, while the EMU defenders didn't allow a shot on goal in the fourth.

EMU will be back in action on Wednesday when they welcome in cross-town, and ODAC, rival Bridgewater for another installment of the Poultry Road Rivalry. Gametime is set for 7 pm.
