Men’s Soccer Mounts Late Comeback for 2-2 Draw at Ferrum

FERRUM, Va.  –  The EMU Men's Soccer team hit the road on Wednesday for their regular season finale at Ferrum College.
 
With 20 minutes left, the Royals trailed 2-0, and it looked as though their season would come to an end right then and there. But Head Coach Justin Carey's team put on a display of toughness and resilience to come back and earn a 2-2 draw against the Panthers.
 
Furthermore, by virtue of the tie and Roanoke's 4-0 defeat of Bridgewater later in the evening, the Royals have earned the eighth and final seed in the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament. This marks the first time the Royals have made the ODAC tournament in back-to-back seasons since the squad tallied five straight appearances in the bracket from 2014-2018.

Highlights
  • 23' | The homestanding Panthers got the scoring started on a goal by Payton Rausch off of a pass from Jadon Brooks. That goal held up until halftime for a 1-0 score at the break.
  • 61' | Rausch struck again on a solo effort to double Ferrum's lead to 2-0 early in the second half.
  • 71' | With their backs against the wall, the Royals responded. Josiah King approached the goal from the left side of the box. After briefly losing the ball, King regained control and sent a pass to Dominic Resto, who banged one home from long range for his first career goal. That cut the Ferrum lead in half at 2-1.
  • 81' | Matt Arledge booted a corner kick from the left side into the box. Ford DeVault leapt up and headed the ball past the Ferrum keeper and into the top half of the net, sending the EMU faithful on hand into a frenzy. That effort evened the score at 2-2.

What's Next
As the eighth seed in the ODAC Men's Soccer Tournament, the Royals will travel to top-seeded Lynchburg for their quarterfinal match this Saturday, Nov. 2. Start time for the match is to be determined.
