#1 HSC Downs Royals in Saturday Showdown

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - The Royals wrapped up a brutal four-game stretch on Saturday, taking on the top ranked team in the nation: Hampden-Sydney.

EMU had two players in double-figures, but HSC was too much as they picked up a 102-61 win.

Records: EMU 4-12, 0-8 ODAC | Hampden-Sydney 14-1, 6-1 ODAC

Highlights

First Half
The Tigers got out to a 7-0 lead before Daijordan Brown drilled a three to put EMU on the board. HSC answered with a 5-0 run, but a pair of free throws from Nick Ondrus cut into the Tigers' lead. HSC then went on a 20-4 run to take a 32-8 lead midway through the half. EMU tried to fight back, picking up a jumper from Julien Hagerman and four straight threes from Aviwe Mahlong and Hagerman, to cut the score to 32-22. The Tigers were able to push their lead back to 19, but Zach Bailey hit a three and Brown sank a free throw to wrap up the Royals scoring for the half, with HSC leading 49-26 at the break.

Second Half
Hagerman and Ondrus sandwiched a Tigers bucket to start the second half and Isaiah Carr hit another shot from deep to cut into the Hampden-Sydney lead. But every time the Royals gained some momentum, HSC hit a bucket to steal it back. They were able to extend their lead to 35 at the 11:16 mark but points from Ty Peterson, Kai Johnson, Bailey and Jazen Walker capped off a 10-2 EMU run. Five points late from Edixon Gomez-Blanco and a jumper from Gabriel Campbell were the Royals final points for the game as HSC picked up the win.
