Royals Shutout Hollins in Women's Soccer

HARRISONBURG, Va. - On a perfect fall Saturday night, EMU women's soccer welcomed Hollins to Harrisonburg for an ODAC showdown as each team was looking for its first ODAC win. 

The Royals used four first half goals, chipping in two in the second, en route to a 6-0 shutout win over the Green and Gold.

Highlights
  • 8' - The Royals got on the board less than 10 minutes into the game. Hannah Dellinger was fouled in the box, awarding EMU a penalty kick. Halie Mast stepped up and buried her shot, putting EMU ahead 1-0. 
  • 22' & 30' - EMU's offense continued to get forward, putting multiple shots on goal and forcing the Hollins keeper to pick up clutch saves. But in the 22nd minute, a shot off the foot of Leah Beachy found the back of the net for a 2-0 EMU lead. Eight minutes later, Ciela Acosta sent a short pass to Beachy, who once again found the back of the net and pushed EMU's lead to three. 
  • 32' - The EMU defense held Hollins to just one shot on goal for the game. That shot came in the 32nd minute as Anna Filipkowski came up with the save to keep the shutout intact. 
  • 41' - With just four minutes before the half, another Hollins foul gave EMU its second penalty kick of the game. This time it was Aja Laun who stepped up and put it in the right corner of the goal for a 4-0 lead.
  • 54' - Just nine minutes into the half, a great series of passes from Beachy and Lyndsay Harris found the foot of Mast who finished the play with her second goal of the game. 
  • 60' - The final goal of the game came off the foot of Marissa Walker who, after a cross from Amiah Carter deflected off the keeper, put the rebound in for the Royals sixth goal of the game.

What's Next
EMU will be on the road on Wednesday when they head to Lexington to take on Washington and Lee. Kickoff against the Generals is scheduled for 7 pm.
