Armstrong's Game-Winner Pushes Royals Past Transy

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The chances were there, the Royals just needed one to drop. And in the 55th minute, it did.

Cassidy Armstrong took a pass at the top of the circle from Elizabeth Longacre, sent a shot toward the goal and beat the keeper, scoring the game winner, as EMU downed Transylvania 2-1.

Records: EMU 2-4, 0-0 ODAC | Transylvania 3-4, 0-0 NCAC

Highlights
  • 9' - There wasn't much going on offensively in the first eight minutes, as neither team was able to pick up any shots. But in the ninth minute, Zofeya Maldonado, from the near side, sent a pass toward the Transylvania cage. The pass found the stick of Morgan Leslie who poked it in past the keeper, putting EMU ahead 1-0.
  • Gracyn Arruda, who had one of the best games of her young career, kept EMU ahead with a save at the 13 minute mark of the first. Arruda was tested and made save-after-save in the second quarter, practically standing on her head after a barrage of Pioneer shots off penalty corners late in the frame. EMU went to the locker room at the half maintaining their one goal lead.
  • 32' - Just two minutes into the third quarter, after an EMU save, the rebound went to a Transy stick and into the cage to tie things at one.
  • 55' - Tight defenses from both squads made overtime seem inevitable until EMU drew a foul, setting up the game-winning penalty corner. After the Royals goal, Arruda picked up one more save to secure the win.
