HARRISONBURG, Va. – The EMU Men's Soccer team kicked off its 2023 campaign with a visit to Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa. Unfortunately for the Royals, the visit ended not in victory but defeat, as the Eagles scored twice in the final 10 minutes to defeat EMU 2-1. Â

- Eastern outshot EMU 9-0 in the opening half, but the Royals kept the Eagles off the scoreboard to head into halftime with a scoreless tie.
- 51' – Ford DeVault broke the ice with a goal to make it 1-0 EMU, with an assist from Matthew Arledge.
- 83' – Eastern found the equalizer with a strike off the foot of Zach Sievert.
- 86' – A few minutes later, Eastern broke the tie on a penalty kick goal by Evan Cope.
- The Royals had a couple of opportunities down the stretch, but they were unable to put in a game-tying goal before the final whistle.
