Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TROUTVILLE, Va. – The Royals softball team hit the road on Sunday, traveling to Troutville for a doubleheader against Roanoke.

Both pitchers threw well in game one, but it was the Maroons' Jada Karnes picking up the 3-0 win. The Roanoke bats came to life in game two, scoring 12 runs in the first three innings en route to a 12-2 five-inning win.

WP: Karnes (4-2)
LP: Natalye Graham (3-5)

Highlights

  • The Royals got into scoring position in the first when Madi Armentrout continued her hot streak, singling to left and advancing to second on a passed ball. But a strikeout and a pop out left her stranded. The Maroons struck first in the first, with a single, stolen base and a double to give RC a 1-0 lead.
  • Becca Boone led off the second with a single but would stay there while Armentrout reached base again in the third, but to no avail. Graham was also rolling, holding the Maroons scoreless through the second, third and fourth innings to keep EMU in the game.
  • In the fifth, Autumn Bailey led off with a single and moved to second on Emerson Adkins' sacrifice bunt. Rayn Robinson followed that up with a walk, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the threat. Roanoke extended their lead with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth, making it 3-0.
  • The Royals once again put a pair of runners on in the sixth with Grace Fravel getting a base hit and Taylor Umberger reaching on an error, but a lineout kept EMU off the board. The Royals went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
