Royals Drop Road Matchup at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – On one of the first chilly days of fall, EMU field hockey made the trip down to the beach, taking on Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC action.

The Marlins used a pair of first quarter goals en route to a 6-0 win over the Royals.

Highlights
  • EMU had a chance early in the game as they were awarded a penalty corner less than two minutes into the game. Cassidy Armstrong was able to pick up a shot, but it was blocked by a Marlin defender.
  • 5' – Gracyn Arruda picked up her first save of the game off a VWU shot, but the Marlins were able to corral the rebound and Katherine Druiett found Lauren Hedspeth right in front of the cage for the goal.
  • Haley Collins added a shot at the 6:07 mark but the Wesleyan keeper came up with the save keeping the game scoreless. The Marlins added a second goal in the first and four more in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead at the half.
  • The Royals had a pair of chances toward the end of the third quarter as Zofeya Maldonado picked up a pair of shots on goal, but the Marlins new keeper stopped both, keeping EMU off the board.
  • Maldonado and Armstrong had a trio of shots on goal in the fourth quarter as well, but couldn't get one past the keeper. The Royals defense was stingy in the second half as well, holding the Marlins without a shot in the final 30 minutes.

What's Next
EMU will continue their road trek on Thursday when they head to Randolph-Macon to take on the Yellow Jackets. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
