Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls to #18 Shenandoah

HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU and Shenandoah came into Wednesday's field hockey matchup, both looking for their first ODAC win of the season.

It was the Hornets picking up that win, using four first half goals and five third quarter goals, to pick up a 9-0 win over EMU.

Records: EMU 3-7, 0-2 ODAC | Shenandoah 8-2, 1-1 ODAC

Highlights
  • 5' - EMU's defense came out strong against the high-powered Hornets offense, with Gracyn Arruda picking up a pair of saves in the first four minutes and Kyla Ross adding a defensive save. But at the 4:48 mark, Shenandoah struck with a goal from Claudia Lenahan, putting SU on top 1-0. Arruda would add two more saves in the period but the Hornets would add another goal, this one from Gracie Wilkerson, to take a 2-0 lead.
  • 12' - With less than four minutes left in the quarter, Morgan Leslie looked like she would score, but SU's Camryn DeLeva came up with a defensive save of her own to keep the Royals off the board.
  • 18' - The Royals picked up a pair of shots to start the second quarter, off the sticks of Elizabeth Longacre and Cassidy Armstrong, but they were both blocked before getting on cage. Leslie did get one on net at 21:32, but it was saved by the Hornet keeper. SU, meanwhile, added another pair of goals in the second quarter, taking a 4-0 lead at the break.
  • The Hornets added five goals in the third quarter with an offensive barrage that included 10 penalty corners. Arruda continued to hang tough, however, picking up 10 saves over the final 30 minutes.
