Royals Roar Past Ferrum 6-0 on Homecoming

HARRISONBURG, Va. – It was a very happy Homecoming for the EMU Men's Soccer team on Saturday. The home crowd had plenty to cheer about early and often as the Royals rolled past Ferrum 6-0, with six different players scoring goals for the Blue and White.

 Records: EMU 7-4-3, 4-1-2 ODAC | Ferrum 3-10, 0-7 ODAC

Highlights
  • 8' | EMU wasted no time asserting themselves on the scoreboard, as Simon Yoder knocked one past the Ferrum keeper off of an assist from Ford DeVault.
  • 26' | Ariel Bonilla took a corner kick from the far side of the field. Instead of looking for a teammate, Bonilla took matters into his own hands, booting the ball into the right side of the net to give the Royals a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.
  • 54' | The Royals were far from done scoring goals. Early on in the second half, Mesa Dula scored in the box following a free kick from Bonilla.
  • 57' | Just a few minutes later, Itzar Mejia Arteaga got fouled by a Ferrum player in the box, prompting the official to call a penalty kick. DeVault would take the penalty and drill it into the net, widening the lead to 4-0.
  • 64' | Then, it was Matthew Arledge's turn to find the scoreboard, taking a set piece and kicking into the top shelf of the net, making it 5-0 Royals.
  • 76' | Josh Maloney scored the final goal of the evening, floating a header above the Ferrum keeper to bring the match to its final score of 6-0.
  • The six goals are the most scored by EMU in a single match since they beat Gallaudet 6-0 back on Oct. 3, 2018.
  • With the win, the Royals have clinched at least a .500 record both overall and in ODAC play.
