Royals Shutout by Maroons

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Royals field hockey squad welcomed in Roanoke to the Burg for a Homecoming showdown. 

Unfortunately for EMU, it was the Maroons picking up a win, using three first half goals en route to a 4-0 win. 

Records: EMU 3-10, 0-5 ODAC | Roanoke 6-5, 4-1 ODAC

Highlights
  • 2' - Gracyn Arruda picked up an early save and two other Roanoke shots were blocked, but on the fourth one, the Maroons shot got though, finding the back of the cage for a 1-0 lead. Roanoke added a second goal two minutes before the quarter ended to take a 2-0 lead after one. 
  • 16' - Less than a minute into the second quarter, RC added to their lead, picking up a goal off a deflection for a 3-0 lead. Arruda added five more saves in the third, along with defensive saves from Rileyanne Collins and Cassidy Armstrong
  • RC picked up one more goal in the third quarter to take a 4-0 lead. EMU's best chance came in the 35th minute when Kate Landis put a strong shot on cage, but it was saved, keeping EMU off the board. 
  • The Royals defense held Roanoke scoreless in the fourth quarter, limiting the Maroons to seven shots, all of which Arruda saved.

What's Next
EMU will be on the road Tuesday when they head to Bridgewater to take on the Eagles in a rivalry matchup. Game time is set for 7 pm.
