Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win With Shutout of Gallaudet

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Sometimes you just need to get the first one.

With a pair of one goal losses this season, with each one coming very late in the match, the EMU men's soccer team was just looking to get over that hump. That happened for the Royals on Sunday as they used three first-half goals along with strong defensive play, to pick up a 4-0 win over Gallaudet.

Records: EMU 1-4-0, 0-0-0 ODAC | Gallaudet 1-2-1, 0-0-0 United East

Highlights

  • 2' - The Royals struck first and they struck early. After a Josh Maloney shot was saved by the Bison keeper, the keepers clear attempt went right to Dallas Organek who put it in, giving EMU a 1-0 lead.
  • 7' - Gallaudet came up with their first shot of the day early in the first half. Tristan Torbett put one on goal but starting keeper Andrew Arledge made an easy save to keep the Bison scoreless.
  • 9' - Less than 10 minutes into the match, EMU took a 2-0 lead. Maloney took the ball at midfield and put a pass forward to a streaking Ford DeVault. DeVault dribbled in and scored, beating the Bison keeper.
  • 35' - EMU added an insurance goal late in the first half. Jacques Mobile played a pass to the middle of the field in the box and Dimas Portillo made a fantastic play with a falling backward bicycle kick for his first goal of the season.
  • 51' - Andrew Foltz, who replaced Andrew Arledge in the second, made a save in his only opportunity, going to his right and keeping the shutout intact.
  • 76' - With just under 20 minutes left in the match, the Royals put their final points on the board. Justin Aggrey, taking the ball down the far side, played a ball into Mobile who put it past the keeper for the 4-0 Royals lead.
