Softball's Season Ends in ODAC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SALEM, Va. - The EMU softball saw their season come to an end Saturday, dropping both games in their stint at the 2022 ODAC Tournament.

The Royals suffered a 5-2 setback to Lynchburg in game one, forcing them to an elimination game against Bridgewater. The Eagles downed EMU 8-0 in five innings to wrap up the Royals season. EMU finishes the 2022 campaign at 19-16-1, 5-13 ODAC.

Highlights - Lynchburg

  • The top-seeded Hornets got on the board in the first inning, using a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases against EMU starter Emily Campbell. A fielder's choice drove in a run and left the bases loaded but Campbell got out of the jam with a pop out and a foul out to limit the damage to one run.
  • EMU tied the game in the top of the third. Bri Allen picked up a one-out double and came around to score on Kendall Stettler's RBI single. Stettler got to third but would stay there as Lynchburg picked up a strikeout to end the inning.
  • An error came back to haunt EMU in the third, when, with two outs, a single scored two runs to push the Hornets lead to 3-1. Stettler picked up her second RBI of the day, driving in Natalye Graham in the fourth to cut the UL lead back to a run.
  • A pair of insurance runs in the sixth helped Lynchburg push their lead to four. In the Royals half of the seventh, Stettler reached base on a two-out single but a strikeout ended the game. Campbell picked up the loss, going the distance and giving up five runs, three of which were earned, while striking out five.
  • At the plate, Stettler and Allen each had two hits while Stettler added a pair of RBI.

Highlights - Bridgewater

  • Bridgewater used two runs in the first, one in the second and four in the fourth to highlight their 8-0 win over EMU in the second game of the day.
  • The Royals had multiple scoring chances, but couldn't push any runs across. In the second, Sierra Lantz and Becca Boone led off with back-to-back singles and moved to second and third on Graham's sac bunt. But two groundouts left EMU scoreless.
  • In the third, EMU threatened again. This time, Korenn Paige led off with a single and moved to second when Stettler reached on an error by the Eagles shortstop. Once again, the runners were moved over with a sac bunt but a strikeout and a groundout left them on.
  • EMU picked up another hit in the fourth but wouldn't get a runner on in their half of the fifth before Bridgewater walked it off in the bottom of the frame.
  • Graham, who got the start in the circle, took the loss for EMU. She tossed 4.0 innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out four.
  • Offensively, EMU had hits from Stettler, Lantz, Boone, Graham and Paige.

What's Next
