UNION, NJ - The EMU men's volleyball team wraps up its 2022 season this weekend with a pair of matches in New Jersey. The Royals dropped the opening match of the weekend to Kean, 3-0 (25-18, 25-6, 25-20). The loss sends EMU to 2-14, 1-5 CVC. 

Highlights

• Kean jumped out to an early 5-2 lead over EMU before the Royals responded with a kill from Nate McGhee, a block from McGhee and Jacob Durren and a Ben Childers ace. The teams traded points and the Cougars took a small 8-7 lead before going on a 6-2 run, pulling ahead 14-9. EMU picked up four of the next six points, taking advantage of Kean errors and a Christopher Webster error to pull back to within three. Another Kean tilt extended the lead to seven and it stayed that way to 22-15. The Royals picked up three straight on errors and a Durren kill but the Cougars scored the final three points to take set one. 
• The second set was a rough one for EMU as they used a McGhee kill to take a 1-0 lead and then nothing else went right as Kean took a 2-0 match lead. 
• The Cougars pulled out 3-0 in the third before EMU scored five straight, highlighted by a Josh White kill, a trio of Cougar errors and a McGhee kill. The teams traded the lead throughout the frame until late, with the Royals holding a slim one-point advantage, 17-16. The Cougars went on a 7-1 run, forcing an EMU timeout. Out of the break, EMU picked up a pair of kills from McGhee and Durren but Kean finished the match with an ace for the win. 
• The Royals offense was led by McGhee with nine kills to go along with five digs. White added four kills while Durren and Webster had three each. Tyler Oaks dished out 10 assists and Drew Bennet finished with eight digs. 

What's Next

EMU will wrap up its 2022 season on Saturday when they take on #7 Rutgers-Newark. First serve is scheduled for noon.
