Box Score FREDERICK, Md. – The Royals men's soccer team was back on the road and back in Maryland on Wednesday as they battled Hood College in a mid-week matchup. EMU took an early first half lead but couldn't hold on as the Blazers knocked off EMU 5-2.
Highlights
- EMU got on the board in the fifth minute when Nico Macgregor attempted a shot that was deflected and put in by Ariel Morales Bonilla.
- The 1-0 lead held for 34 minutes as EMU's defense clamped down and keeper Ahmed Zaatar came up with five saves. In the 39th minute, however, Hood tied the match at one and then took a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 43rd minute.
- The Blazers extended their lead with a goal just a minute into the second half.
- EMU was able to climb back within one, at 2-3, in the 60th minute when, from 45 yards out, Ben Alderfer took a free kick and put it into the box. It ricocheted off a Hood player right to a waiting Macgregor who put it in for his second goal of the season.
- Hood would regain the two-goal lead just 26 seconds later before adding another in the 70th minute for the 5-2 win.
- Morales Bonilla led the way for EMU with a goal and three shots on goal. Four other Royals had one shot on goal each.
- Zaatar finished with 11 saves.

- 8 – While Hood outshot EMU by just four, 24-20, they had eight more shots on goal than the Royals (17-9).
- 6 – EMU has allowed six first half goals through its first three games of the season.
What's Next
EMU will continue its road start to 2021 as they head to Virginia Beach for a pair of neutral site matches this weekend. They'll take on Greensboro on Saturday and Averett on Sunday as part of the Marlin Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
