Royals Drop First Home Match Of Season

Harrisonburg, Va. - The EMU men's soccer team played their first home match of the 2021 season on Thursday night, coming up on the short end of a tightly contested match with the visiting Flying Squirrels of Mary Baldwin. Just one goal in the first half was the difference-maker in the match, leaving the Royals just short, losing by a final score of 1-0. 

Highlights

  • Alexis Barba sank the lone goal in the contest in the 24th minute for Mary Baldwin. The goal was unassisted and would go on to be the deciding factor in the match. 
  • In the 31st minute, Ethan Mcgee was in the center of an exciting play. Booting a sharp shot, the ball narrowly missed going into the goal, hitting the top post just enough to miss. 
  • In the 85th minute Ford DeVault made one last attempt at the goal, missing his shot just wide of the goal. 

By The Numbers

  • 4 - Four different Royals each had a shot on goal to try to even up the tally. 
  • 11 - Both teams each had 11 shots in the tight match.

What's Next

  • The Royals are back on the road this Saturday, Sept. 25, traveling to Lynchburg to take on the Hornets in a 7:00 PM match.
