Second Straight Shutout Propels Royals Over Vixens

Box Score

The Royals won their second straight contest on Tuesday, overcoming the Sweet Briar Vixens in shutout fashion, 3-0.

The win puts EMU back at the .500 mark at 3-3, with the record the same in conference play. Sweet Briar fell to 1-3 on the year.

EMU struck quickly in the first quarter, charging down the field and finding the back of the cage at the 3:19 mark of the game off the stick of Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) with the assist from Skylar Hedgepeth (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield).

The second quarter of the game was tightly contested. Both teams were only able to get off three shots, with defense being the theme of the quarter. Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) put a shot up in the final minutes to attempt to strengthen their lead, but it would ultimately be blocked by the Vixens, sending the Royals into halftime with a slim lead of 1-0.

EMU came into the second half of play with the offensive advantage, outshooting the Vixens in the third quarter 4-1. The Royals finally tacked on at the 39:10 mark, notching their second goal of the night with a shot from Hedgepeth. Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) was credited with the assist on the play.

In the fourth, EMU tacked on insurance with a goal from Ashley Maldonado (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) at 49:38, getting an assist from senior Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central). The goal would push the score to its final of 3-0, as the Royals kept defensive pressure on the Vixens, notching the victory and the shutout.

EMU outshot Sweet Briar 15-6, continuing their offensive prowess in their past two games.

Tricarico led the offensive charge for EMU, punching six shots in the contest, four of them being on goal with her one goal on the night.

Ann Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) was perfect on the night, grabbing five saves on five shots faced.

Alexis Jones led the Vixens with three shots on goal in the contest.

The Royals turn around quick, scheduled to play Bridgewater College in a rescheduled game on Thursday, Apr. 8 with a start time slated for 7:00pm.
