The EMU field hockey team notched their second win of the season on Saturday, taking down the Ferrum Panthers on the road by a score of 3-0.

The Royals improve their record to 2-3 on the year thus far, with Ferrum still seeking their first victory, sitting at 0-8.

EMU was on the attack from the start, consistently putting offensive pressure on the Panthers. At the 3:02 mark, Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) put the Royals on the board, finding the back of the cage with a pass from Morgan Tricarico (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View). From there, the two teams battled for possesion for the rest of the first period, both unable to score.

In the second period, EMU struck again. This time, Skylar Hedgepeth (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) put herself into position, punching a shot past the Ferrum goalie. 

Heading into halftime, the Royals looked at a 2-0 lead, keeping the Panthers to only one shot. 

In the third period, the Royals would extend their lead. Lauren Hartzler (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) found Juliana Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) with an open look, who darted a shot into the cage, pushing the lead to 3-0 in favor of EMU. 

EMU was unable to score in the fourth period, but they kept defensive pressure on the Panthers, not allowing a shot. 

When the game ended, the Royals came out with the decisive win over the Panthers. 

EMU outshot Ferrum 15-1, with the lone shot for the Panthers coming in the first period. 

Hartzler added four shots on the day on top of her assist in the third period. 

EMU takes on Sweet Briar on Tuesday, Apr. 6 in a rescheduled contest and looks to begin building momentum as the season pushes on.
