Field Hockey Team Drops Opener At W&L

Box Score

Unable to immobilize the high-powered offense of Washington and Lee, the Eastern Mennonite field hockey team, in their first game in over a year, fell in Lexington by a score of 7-0.

The Royals look to bounce back in a week, hosting Randolph-Macon on Saturday, Mar. 13 for senior recognition day.

W&L's offense kicked into action early in the game, with a goal from Grace Amaden with 6:36 left in the first quarter.

The Generals kept offensive pressure on the Royals throughout the game.  In the contest, Washington and Lee would amass 41 total shots, 25 of them being on goal.

EMU was able to keep the game within reach through the first half with gritty defense, only behind by a score of 3-0 at the intermission. Coming into the second half of the game, the Royals would look to make a comeback.

The Generals came out swinging in the second half, though, scoring two goals in both the third and fourth quarters.

Ann Ghally (Aldie, Va./John Champe) held her own in the cage for the Royals, collecting 16 saves in the effort. The Royals got defensive saves from Brandy Troutman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) (last year's national leader) and freshman Cassidy Armstrong (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View).

Tess Muneses had two goals for Washington and Lee on 11 shots.
