Box Score The EMU soccer men wrapped up their regular season on Sunday, traveling to Hampden-Sydney to take on the Tigers. After a tightly contested match, the Royals came up on the losing end, falling by a score of 3-1.
The Tigers remain undefeated after the win, with the Royals finishing their regular season at 0-8-1 ,0-7-1 in conference play.
The first half of play was a tight back-and-forth between the two teams. Both squads were unable to get anything in the back of the net. The Tigers outshot the Royals 8-4, but the Royals had two of their shots on goal apart from all of the Tigers' missing wide.
The Royals' Dallas Organek (Springfield, Va./South County Secondary) tried to put EMU on top in the 36th minute, but missed the shot wide.
When the first half finished, the two teams were locked at 0-0.
The Tigers took the lead in the 59th minute of the match with a goal from John Alexander. Emory Davis notched the assist.
EMU did not fold, though. In the 76th minute, Cole Ours (Kalona, Ia./Iowa Mennonite) found Joshua Chiquillo (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) down the pitch. Chiquillo took the open shot and sent a screamer past the Tigers' goalkeeper, equalizing the match and breathing life into the Royals.
Minutes later, the Tigers regained the lead with a goal from Kade Wheeler.
A goal from Hampden-Sydney's Declan Shaw in the 85th minute of the match pushed the score to its final tally of 3-1.
Ariel Morales Bonilla (Richmond, Va./Huguenot) added two shots in the match for the Royals.
Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) notched four saves on the day.
