The Eastern Mennonite soccer men traveled to Ashland, Va. to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon, seeking their first win of the spring 2021 season. After a valiant effort, the Royals fell by a score of 2-0 in the contest. 

The Royals drop to 0-5-1 with the loss while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-1-0.

The game kicked off with the two teams looking to find momentum. The Yellow Jackets were the ones to kick it into gear, though, scoring the first goal of the match with a shot from Chazz Jones, assisted by Colton Howell. 

Randolph-Macon struck again soon after, finding the back of the net again off the foot of Jones for the second time. 

The Royals pushed their offensive effort to chip away at the deficit from there. In the 32nd minute, Gabe Nafziger (Crozet, Va./Western Albemarle) found a clearing and took a shot, but missed wide. Four minutes later, Dallas Organek (Springfield, Va./South County Secondary) attempted to cut the score in half with a shot, but missed wide again. 

As halftime was called, the Royals found themselves in a 2-0 hole. 

EMU's defense turned on in the second half, not allowing a goal and cutting Ranolph-Macon's shots down considerably. 

As time counted down, the Royals tried to get some offense together. In the 85th minute, Nico Macgregor (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) took a strike at the goal, but the shot was saved by Randolph-Macon's Anthony Ivanov. With under two minutes to play, EMU's David Flores Cano (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Hesston) took a shot at the goal, but missed off target.

Joshua Chiquillo (Woodbridge, Va./Gar-Field) took three shots on the night, with one of them being on goal. 

The Royals' Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) notched nine total saves in the contest. 

The Royals hit the pitch again at home on Sunday, Mar. 21 with a start time of 5:00pm.
