EMU's soccer men opened their season with a tough loss to Lynchburg, last year's ODAC runner-up. The game, a 6-0 loss, was played Tuesday afternoon in Harrisonburg after being rescheduled from Sunday due to ice on the field.

The Royals weathered an early push from Lynchburg and played even with their visitors for much of the first half. But two short lapses proved costly for a 2-0 deficit at halftime. The Hornets dumped in two goals in short spans twice in the second half to provide the final margin.

Jamie Corzo (Bristow, Va./Patriot) led EMU with a pair of shot attempts, while Nico Macgregor (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) pushed the men's only shot on goal.

Junior goalie Ahmed Zaatar (Barboursville, Va./William Monroe) made a number of diving stops en route to his total of nine saves.

Eastern Mennonite stays at home for their next match against Randolph College this Sunday at 6:00pm. No spectators are allowed to the game as part of EMU's interim outdoor spectator policy, but a free video webstream will be available.
