EMU pulled out a close victory on the road at Emory & Henry, defeating the Wasps 75-73 in the Sunday contest. This is the first win over Emory & Henry for the Royals since 2014.

With the win, the Royals move to 1-1 on the season. 

It was anybody's game, with the two teams trading leads throughout. While the Wasps grabbed the lead early and held it for a majority of the first half, the Royals stayed close behind. EMU grabbed their first lead with 6:54 left in the half on behalf of a score from Chris Simmons (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County). 

The rest of the half would be an intense back-and-forth battle until a three-pointer by the Wasps pushed the score to 38-37 heading into the half. 

The Royals kicked off the scoring in the second half, with Julien Hagerman (Stephenson, Va./Millbrook) knocking down a three to push the score to 40-38 in EMU's favor. From there, the back-and-forth would continue, with both teams trading leads. 

EMU would pull ahead later in the second half, leading by as many as 11 points, but the Wasps were not going to make it easy. Emory & Henry would go on an 8-0 run to quickly put themselves within two. With 37 seconds left in the contest, the Wasps would tie it up at 73-73. 

Two clutch free throws from Kobi Alexander (Madison, Va./Madison County) would be the difference, pushing the final score to 75-73. 

The Royals shot 45.8% from floor and 27.8% beyond the arc, gaining the advantage over Emory & Henry's 32.9% and 17.2%, respectively.

DJ Hill (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) led the charge on both ends of the court for the Royals, notching 18 total points and 11 rebounds. 

Tim Jones (Forestville, Md./Central) had another impressive performance to help the Royals, tallying 15 points and six assists in the contest. 

On his senior day, Robert Holliday, Jr. scored 24 for the Wasps with 15 rebounds.
