Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU men's soccer team came into Saturday's matchup against Randolph looking to not only pick up its first win of the season, but also to give Randolph its first loss of the season.
And for a while, it looked like it would happen.
But, with the game tied at one at the half, Randolph used three second half goals to keep their undefeated season alive and drop the Royals, 4-1, in front of the Rowdy Royals crowd.
Highlights
- EMU got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in just the ninth minute of the game. Off a Randolph foul, David Flores Cano dribbled up to the WildCats 25-yard mark, then sent a pass to Cole Ours on the opposite side of the field. The pass hit Ours in stride who struck it with his right foot and put it past the diving Randolph keeper to give EMU the lead.
- Ahmed Zaatar kept the EMU lead intact with two save in the 11th minute but Randolph was able to tie things up in the 21st minute when Evan Blow put one on goal and beat Zaatar. Neither team was able to do anything else offensively in the half and the game went to the break tied at one.
- The WildCats took the lead for good in the 47th minute despite some spectacular goalkeeping by Zaatar. Blow had back-to-back shots saved by Zaatar but he couldn't corral the rebound and Blow was right there for the putback to put Randolph up 2-1.
- A bit of unfortunate luck led to Randolph's third goal as a WildCat sent a shot toward the box that deflected off a Royals defender and in to put RC ahead 3-1. The WildCats added another in the 81st minute and with the win moved to 10-0-1, 3-0-1 ODAC on the season.
- Ours goal was his second on the season and it turned out to be the Royals lone shot on goal for the night. Zaatar finished the matchup with seven saves.
