HARRISONBURG, Va. - EMU's field hockey team opened ODAC play Wednesday night, welcoming Shenandoah to the Turf Field. 

The Hornets used three goals in the first four minutes to jump ahead early as they beat the Royals 11-0. 

Highlights

• SU got on the board just :25 seconds into the match. After an EMU foul in the circle gave the Hornets a penalty corner, Elizabeth Ranberger found Kelsey Jones, who dribbled into the circle and put it past Ann Ghally to put Shenandoah up 1-0. Shenandoah added their second goal less than two minutes later. Ghally made a great save on a Mairead Mckibbin shot but the deflection went right to Lindsey Florio who put it in and put SU ahead 2-0. The Hornets would all two more in the frame to take a 4-0 lead after one.  
• EMU's best chance of the first quarter came in the ninth minute off a Skylar Hedgepeth penalty corner. Brandy Troutman was able to get a shot off but it was blocked before getting onto goal. 
• Morgan Leslie started the second quarter off with a shot that was blocked before it could do any damage. Elizabeth Longacre put EMU's only shot on goal in the second quarter but it was saved by the Hornets keeper. SU added a goal to take a 5-0 lead into the half. 
• Three more Shenandoah goals gave the visitors an 8-0 lead in the third, and brought a goalkeeper change for EMU. Marie Wilson took over between the pipes for Ghally, who finished the night with five saves. Wilson made a save late in the third quarter before the Hornets added three more goals late to finish the scoring. 
• Hedgepeth, Troutman, Leslie and Longacre all had shots for EMU which fell to 7-4, 0-1 ODAC on the season. 

What's Next

EMU's schedule doesn't get any easier as they'll travel to Lynchburg on Friday night to take on the Hornets. That match is slated to start at 7 pm.
