GREENSBORO, NC - The Royals men's soccer team wrapped up its 2021 road slate on Saturday, taking a leisurely trip down to Greensboro. 

Once they got off the bus, however, they were all business as EMU used goals from Ford DeVault and Kaden Schrock to pick up a 2-1 road ODAC win. 

Highlights

• Ahmed Zaatar kept Guilford off the board to start the game, stopping the first three Quaker shots that came his way. 
• EMU took the lead at the 19:03 mark. After a Guilford turnover at the Royals 35 yard-line, a pass found a streaking DeVault at the Quaker 30. The Guilford keeper came out to the 10 and meet DeVault and DeVault lifted his shot over the keeper's head, giving EMU a 1-0 lead. The Royals put six more on goal in the first half but couldn't add to their lead, taking a 1-0 advantage into the half. 
• Guilford tied the match in the 63rd minute when Ryan Doyle found Logan Eure, who beat Zaatar, to tie the match at 1. 
• That lead would stand for the next 14 minutes Schrock gave EMU the lead for good. Off a Guilford free kick, DeVault headed the ball ahead to Schrock who sent a beautiful ball to Ethan McGee inside the Quakers 10. McGee dribbled past his defender and sent a perfect pass back to Schrock, who put it past a leaping goalkeeper, to give EMU the one-goal advantage. 
• The Royals defense was able to limit Guilford to just two more shots in the match with Zaatar stopping both. 
• McGee, to go along with his assist, led the Royals with five shots, four of which were on goal. Schrock had two on the Quakers goalkeeper. Zaatar finished the match nine saves on 10 shots. 

By the Numbers

• 759 - It's been 759 days since the Royals have picked up a road win. They took down Bridgewater 2-1 on September 25, 2019. 
• .619% - DeVault has 13 shots on goal for the season on 21 shots, giving him a .619 SOG%. 

What's Next

EMU will wrap up its 2021 season on Tuesday when they welcome Hampden-Sydney to Harrisonburg. The match will kickoff at 7 pm and EMU will celebrate its five seniors.
