Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The EMU men's soccer team made the trek north on Wednesday to take on Shenandoah in an ODAC matchup. The Hornets used four first half goals and a pair in the second half to pick up a 6-0 win over the Royals.
Highlights
- Shenandoah got on the board in the 15th minute. A shot was initially deflected by Royals keeper Ahmed Zaatar but he wasn't able to corral the deflection as it rolled into the net, giving SU a 1-0 lead. The Hornets added two more goals in the next two minutes to take a 3-0 lead at the 20 minute mark.
- Ford DeVault got the first shot for EMU in the 27th minute but it was saved by the Hornets keeper. Less than 20 seconds later DeVault was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kick. His attempt, however, went high and EMU was kept off the board.
- Gabe Nafziger had a shot in the 37th minute that was also saved by the Shenandoah keeper. Shenandoah added their fourth goal of the half in the 32nd minute to take a 4-0 lead into the half.
- The EMU defense played lockdown in the second half, keeping Shenandoah off the board until the 85th minute. In that time, Mason DenBesten and DeVault had a pair of shots but weren't able to put it in the back of the net.
- DeVault finished the match with two shots on goal while Nafziger and DenBesten had one apiece. Zaatar finished with three saves for the match while the EMU defense held Shenandoah to just nine shots on goal.
What's Next
EMU will wrap up the road portion of their ODAC schedule on Saturday when they travel to North Carolina to take on Guilford. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
