Men's Soccer Falls To Top-Ranked W&L

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Coming off a big win over Ferrum, the EMU men's soccer team welcomed the nation's top-ranked team, Washington & Lee to EMU on Saturday for Homecoming.

The Generals lived up their billing as they used four goals in each half to pick up an 8-0 win over the Royals.

Highlights

  • W&L got on the board first, scoring in just 32 seconds. Weyimi Agbeyegbe put a pass into the box and found Samuel Bass who beat keeper Ahmed Zaatar to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.
  • Zaatar picked up two saves later in the half but W&L was able to add three more goals in the 20th, 28th and the 35th minutes to take a 4-0 advantage into the break. The Royals had their best opportunity of the half early on when Tony Cortes put a shot on goal but it was stopped by the Generals keeper.
  • The EMU defense, along with Zaatar, kept the Generals off the board for 12 minutes in the second half but W&L were able to add to their lead with a 58th minute tally.
  • EMU's best scoring chance came in the 78th minute when Cole Ours beat the W&L defense for a one-on-one with the Generals keeper. But the keeper forced an errant shot. W&L added three more goals in the frame, ending the game at 8-0.
  • Zaatar finished with five saves and the Royals offense had three shots.
