Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – A win was coming.
The EMU men's soccer team had been playing well but couldn't seem to get over the hump and pick up that first win of the season. Until Wednesday night.
Ford DeVault had a pair of first half goals and a second half assist and Ahmed Zaatar picked up seven saves to lead the Royals to a 4-0 win over Ferrum.
Highlights
- EMU got on the board early in the first half to take a quick 1-0 lead. Off a Ferrum foul, Bryce Graf took the free kick and sent a pass into the box. DeVault headed the pass past the diving Panthers keeper for his second goal of the season.
- Zaatar made two saves in the next 24 minutes, keeping Ferrum off the board. DeVault scored his second goal of the match in the 27th minute, taking a beautiful crosser from Ethan Mcgee and burying it in the back of the net. Zaatar and the defense kept the Panthers off the board and sent the Royals into the break up 2-0.
- The Royals padded their lead right out of the gate when, off a Tony Cortes corner kick, DeVault headed a pass to Cole Ours who put it past the Ferrum keeper.
- The Royals added their fourth goal of the game when Baelin Watson took the ball down the left side, dribbled past a defender and scored for his first of the year.
- The shutout is the Royals first on the season and Zaatar finished with seven saves.
By the Numbers
- 4 – The Royals four goals is their most in a game since an OT loss to Shenandoah during the 2019 season, in which they scored four.
- 2:29 – The Royals goal in the third minute is their fastest goal this season.
