Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. – Another game, another Morgan Leslie goal.
The first-year, who has now scored in six straight, took a pass from Brandy Troutman and put it past the Sweet Briar keeper in the 34th minute for what proved to be the game-winner in a Royals 2-0 win over the Vixens.
Highlights
- EMU came out the aggressors in the first quarter, keeping the Sweet Briar defense backed up in their own end of the field. The Royals had four shots in the first five minutes of the game but weren't able to put anything past the Vixens keeper. EMU finished the first frame with seven shots total to Sweet Briar's one.
- The roles were reversed in the second with SB coming out and getting the shot advantage. But Royals senior keeper, Ann Ghally, came up with two big saves to keep things scoreless at the half.
- Leslie's 10th goal of the season came less than four minutes into the second half and gave EMU a 1-0 lead. Skylar Hedgepeth, who usually dishes out the assists, added a second insurance goal from Elizabeth Longacre just four minutes later to give EMU a 2-0 advantage.
- That 2-0 lead would be more than enough as the EMU defense, led by Alaina Fiden, Cassidy Armstrong, Kate Landis, Troutman and Ghally would keep Sweet Briar off the board, limiting them to just one shot on goal in the second half, which was stopped by Ghally.
- Leslie's 10th goal of the season puts her in sole possession of second place in the ODAC. Hedgepeth added another two points to her season total, which gives her 27 and also gives her at least one point in seven straight, and eight of nine.
By the Numbers
- 25 – Friday's win over Sweet Briar moves EMU to a 25-0 record against the Vixens in the two teams last 25 meetings.
- 5 – Ghally now has five shut outs through the team's first nine games. This is the most shut outs she's had since the 2019 season when she had six for the whole season. She is also tied for third in the ODAC with a 1.57 GAA.
- 7 – EMU outshot the Vixens 15-8 total and 6-3 on goal.
