EMU Drops ODAC Matchup to Roanoke

Box Score

SALEM, Va. - With non-conference out of the way, the EMU men's soccer team welcomed October on the road, heading to Salem to take on Roanoke College. Goalkeeper Ahmed Zaatar had a match-high 12 saves but it wasn't enough as the Maroons beat EMU, 6-0.

Highlights

  • Roanoke got on the board first, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute, and taking a 1-0 lead.
  • Seconds after Roanoke's first score, Ford DeVault put a shot on goal but couldn't beat the RC keeper.
  • The Royals defense was able to keep the Maroons off the board for the next 30 minutes until the 43rd minute. EMU's David Flores Cano was called for a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for RC. Michael Chang took it and put it past Zaatar to give Roanoke a 2-0 lead going into the half.
  • Roanoke added four more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach and send EMU to 0-2 in the ODAC.
  • Zaatar finished the match with 12 saves.
