Box Score SALEM, Va. - With non-conference out of the way, the EMU men's soccer team welcomed October on the road, heading to Salem to take on Roanoke College. Goalkeeper Ahmed Zaatar had a match-high 12 saves but it wasn't enough as the Maroons beat EMU, 6-0.
Highlights
- Roanoke got on the board first, finding the back of the net in the 13th minute, and taking a 1-0 lead.
- Seconds after Roanoke's first score, Ford DeVault put a shot on goal but couldn't beat the RC keeper.
- The Royals defense was able to keep the Maroons off the board for the next 30 minutes until the 43rd minute. EMU's David Flores Cano was called for a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick for RC. Michael Chang took it and put it past Zaatar to give Roanoke a 2-0 lead going into the half.
- Roanoke added four more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach and send EMU to 0-2 in the ODAC.
- Zaatar finished the match with 12 saves.
What's Next
EMU will take on cross-town rival, Bridgewater, in Bridgewater next Wednesday in a battle for Valley supremacy. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
