Box Score 2 The EMU volleyball man made a road trip to Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday, playing a tri-match hosted by Mount St. Joseph. The young Royals came home with a pair of losses, their first of the year, as they prepare to host Immaculata this weekend.
Start time against Immaculata on Saturday is 1:00pm in Yoder Arena.
Mount St. Joseph 3, EMU 0
The men never got their offense in gear against the Lions, dropping the opener 25-10. Set two was entirely reversed, as EMU hit .435. Martin Pou (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) landed back-to-back solo blocks to lock the score up at 19-19, but MSJ scored the next two to keep an edge and win, 25-22. Mr. Hyde returned for the third set, a 25-12 loss.
Pou had team highs of four kills and three blocks. Drew Bennett (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) set up 12 assists. Andrew Livioco (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) made five digs.
Medaille 3, EMU 0
The Royals again hit negative as a team but managed to stay tight with Medaille. They led early on at 10-8, but after giving up the lead couldn't get closer than two points in a 25-20 loss.
EMU scored the first three in the second set and then pushed out to a 12-7 edge after Pou and Josh White (Chesapeake, Va./Bishop Sullivan) combined for a block. The Mavericks more than regrouped after a timeout, however, unleashing an 11-1 run to take control at 18-13. The men again could get no closer than two in a 25-22 loss.
Medaille scored the first two in the third set and ran away with a 25-12 clincher.
Bennett had four kills while Wyatt Bollinger (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) chipped in three kills and 10 assists. Pou had three kills and two blocks. Neo Carter (Newport News, Va./Heritage) led the back row with five digs.
